For Magnolia

(EDITOR’S NOTE: This poem was written by Garrett Morrow of Talking Rock. “Poetry has always been a big part of my life,” he says, “and it would be an honor if one of my poems I wrote for my unborn daughter could be included in your paper. My beautiful baby girl, Magnolia, is due in early June, and it would mean the world to me if my love for poetry and my new baby could be shared with others.”

For Magnolia

Looking into your eyes I see a blue reflection of a starlit sky.
Reflecting a sky glittering with stars they look back at me following my every move.
It is as if a small mirror has been placed in my arms.
As I brush back your hair I feel calmness come over me.
For your hair is like silk woven into an angel’s gown soft to the touch and beautiful at sight
As I hold you in my arms gazing on your immense beauty
I sense a loving bond a love with no bounds. Let you not be influenced by the hate and deceit in your life that may lead you astray but allow me to be your compassing guidance through all of life’s troubles.
I describe you as if we have met yet I have only in my dreams.
Dreams of untold adventures of the greatest wonders.
Dreams where I know not of your appearance but of the person you are to become.
I count the days to an unknown date when I can hold you in my arms when I can brush back your hair.
When I can look in your eyes and know it is no longer a dream
With a trembling voice and a heart filled with joy. I can finally say I love you my child.
