Home alone nights, odd sound I hear
Heard it last night making its round
Dead silence, then noises abound
Tell self, “Door’s locked. No need to fear.”
Safe in bed, clock’s red, all I see
Home alone nights, odd sound I hear
Commode flushes, water runs free
“Gotta Go” burglar, can it be?!!!
The unseemly flush made my heart pound
Bit lip, prayed thief disappear
Home alone nights, odd sound I hear
Watched clock, til heard no hissing sound
4 a m: peeked out, he’s not around
5:02: sounds back, loud and clear
Plumber called, burglar gone, ghost found.
Home alone nights, no flush I hear.
