CANTON BBQ ON OCT. 29 TO BENEFIT VETERANS ORGANIZATIONS

The Veteran Organizations in Cherokee County will have their Annual BBQ on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at American Legion Post 45, 160 McClure Street, Canton. The BBQ is a Georgia State Association cook-off with professional Georgia Barbecue Association members vying for trophies and cash prizes totalling $12,000 while amateurs will be competing for non-cash awards and people’s choice awards. BBQ plates will be available for purchase.

American Legion Post 45 will be host to the half-scale traveling replica of The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. This is a family event with live bands all day, veteran-owned businesses, a craft fair, raffles, and a children’s entertainment area, which will include face painting, games, trick or treating, and a Halloween costume contest to be held at 5 p.m.

“Please come out and support our local veteran organizations,” a spokesman said, “with all proceeds from the BBQ event to benefit Veteran Suicide Awareness and the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program, both of which are non-profit organizations.
