With all of the things going on in our great country today
We should take a moment to bow our heads and pray
The many rights you have to go out and do as you please
Are only available now because someone was brought to their knees
A warrior who once stood proud for his country and flag
A man that left walking but was sent home in a black bag
Not knowing what was before him he pressed on both day and night
For the freedoms you take for granted this soldier did fight
From being able to walk down the street without any fear
To openly loving someone that in your heart is very dear
Lying in a hole covered in a pool of his own blood
So you can take your toys out and go play in the mud
Dog tags around his neck the only thing that was found
So you can let your kids freely play outside running around
A flag to which he stood for proudly and gave a salute
He jumped out of a plane with only a gun and parachute
Scared I am sure thinking only of loved ones back home
He ran straight ahead into so many dangers unknown
Over the hills out of the oceans across fields full of rice
Fighting off enemies both foreign and abroad such sacrifice
No greater love hath a man than to lay down his life
I cannot imagine the pain of his children and his wife
His parents who may not have gotten to say goodbye
Only to find out via letter their son did indeed die
So sad it is now days to see how some people act
Yet a soldier goes on to fight for them this is a fact
I wish they could come home none ever having to fall
Let us never forget that all gave some…some gave all
