POETRY, DREAMS OF LOVE

I have wondered why, with all the folks
in this world
there is not much interest
in poetry.
Computers? Internet? Facebook? Twitter?
Illiteracy? Ignorance? Insensitivity?

A few hundred years ago, the poets were read, discussed,
and loved. Blake, Coleridge, Keats, Browning . . . .
and so it goes . . . . who remembers?
Hell, even I can’t write, when drawn into the modern world,
and away from the classical influences.

There were less people then, and only
pen and paper.
The age of reason was born, and countries
had a fleeting vision
of integrity, and morality.

Maybe, when poetry is loved again, will the world
be right once more. . . .
