Remembering poet Chelle Lance

This edition of Poetry Corner is dedicated to one of our long-standing poets, Chelle Lance. Chelle passed away last month, and we want to honor her memory.

She was a talented poet, photographer and philosopher who touched the lives and hearts of so many. She worked as an LPN for many years helping others heal physically and mentally. It was my honor and pleasure to call her my friend.

Chelle had a heart of gold and would go above and beyond for people she loved, strangers and animals. Her poems were straight from her heart and even at times her witty sense of humor. While we will forever miss her on this earth, the words, kindness, and love she shared with us all will live on forever.

This was one of her last poems and one that to me says so much about how she would want us to remember her. She has three sons and grandchildren she loved dearly. She had countless friends and loved ones who will always carry her in their hearts.

To have had the opportunity to know Chelle was a true blessing to us all. Rest easy my friend until we meet again. – LORA BUNCH

By CHELLE LANCE

If I ever leave here…
Know that I am near…
As my gypsy soul…
Whispers amidst the sway…
Of the willows…
If I ever go away…
Know my beating heart…
Stays tucked away…
Like a forgotten love letter…

Safely in sweet memories…
If I ever am gone…
I will forever have a home…
Amongst the storytellers…
Of my wondrous bittersweet journey…
And a well trodden path…
Of love…
